Description

Chasen, tea whisk, made of Japanese bamboo.

Takayama Chasen is a chasen made in Takayama-cho, Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture. It is a manufacturing method that has been passed down from generation to generation for about 500 years and is carefully made one by one by hand. No fungicides are used. Takayama Chasen is registered as one of the Traditional Crafts of Japan.

Currently, more than 60 types of Chasen are made. Generally, the Chasen with a large number of prongs is easy to make a lot of foam and suitable for Usu-cha. The Chasen with a small number of prongs is suitable for Koi-cha. This Chasen is perfect for making frothy matcha.

Before first use:
The bottom of the whisk is glued to the paper box to protect the prongs during the shipment.
When you take the whisk out of the box, some paper may remain at the bottom of the whisk.
Let the whisk soak in warm water for a few minutes to remove the remained paper.

How to use:
To prevent the tip of the whisk from breaking, please always soak the whisk in warm water before using.
Pressing the tip of the whisk against the bottom of the matcha bowl may cause the tip to break. To prolong the lifespan of the whisk, please handle it gently.

After each use:
Rinse the tines with water.
Do not use a dishwasher or detergent.
Shake the whisk to remove excess water.
Place your whisk on a whisk holder or stand it up and dry it thoroughly in a well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight, and then store it in a cool and dark place where there is little change in temperature or humidity.
