Description

Susudake Chashaku is the Chashaku made of Susudake (smoked bamboo) that was used for the roof frame in traditional thatched-roof houses in the countryside and naturally exposed to the smoke from the Kamado (wood-burning stove) and irori (open hearth) for 100 to 200 years.

Susudake is re-used bamboo that comes from dismantled old thatched-roof houses and has a beautiful glossy brown or candy color when it is polished. The part exposed to smoke is dark, and the traces tied with a rope and the part not exposed to smoke are light and have a beautiful natural shade pattern.

Now that the number of these traditional thatched-roof houses has decreased, it has been difficult to obtain it and become very rare and expensive. It is often used as a high-grade bamboo material for tea utensils.

Please note that due to the natural bamboo products, each item is unique. Thus color may vary slightly from the images shown.

How to care:
Use a soft cloth to wipe off the attached tea. Avoid washing with water or using a wet cloth. If it gets wet, wipe it off immediately as it may cause stains. Store in a well-ventilated place and away from direct sunlight.
