This is the a piece of work submitted to an exhibition at Nihonbashi Takashimaya
Department Store Gallery in Tokyo. The cteno-incised ornament, called "retsujoumon"
requires proficient skills. Mr. Tanaka is a master of this technique, and
only a few person have these skills among Hagi potters.
The vase is roughly shaped on the wheel, make a shallow cuts in the surface
of the vessel, spin the wheel again and slightly swell out the body from
inside of the vessel by hand, chipping away the clay made slits.
