Description:
"A set of a teapot, ""samashi"", plate for sweets, and 6teacups: best suited for brewing high quality sencha and gyokuro tea. Since relatively low temperature with small amount of water is required for high grade green tea, these cups are ideal shape and size to serve these teas. Touching lips to the edge of the cups is very smooth and pleasant. The ""samashi"" is a boat-shaped bowl as shown on photos, which is used to cool down boiled water to the right temperature. ""Gohonte"" is a generic name of the style with wich various colors, such as red, white and gray, are mixed. These works were created using daido, mitake and mishima clay, applied a clear glaze, and done in reductional fire with a temperature of 1240 degrees. The tone within the color of the texture changes with use over time. Part of the reason is that the clay used for hagi ware is penetrative and it allows the tea soak into crackles and leave residues. This is called ""nana-bake"" and one of a charm of the hagiyaki that has been prized by tea masters. The more one use, the more it deepen its austere refinement.
Typical hagi style item in perfect condition." |
