The haikaburi is literally translated as "ash-covered". In ascending kiln (wood fired kiln), some potteries are placed around the firing area. During firing, wood ashes fall on these potteries and melt into a natural glaze that creates the charm of austere refinement. Since these potteries are placed inch away from the stoking space, the most potteries made using this technique are cracked by the splits of wood. Even though some of them came out from the kiln safely, the piece that fully meets his requirements is only one in average. This tea ceremony bowl was crafted using daido, mitake and mishima clay, covered with a straw ash glaze, and done in reductional fire with a temperature of 1300 degrees.
