Ido chawan, also called kourai chawan, was a type of pottery made in Korea between 14th and 16th century as a ware of common people. During the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1615), ido tea bowls caught the eye of masters of ceremonial tea and feudal warlords in Japan and was held in high esteem as their simple, rustic taste exteriorized the concept of wabi, which is the essence of sado, the way of tea. This piece was created using daido, mitake and mishima clay, applied a clear glaze on the surface of the bowl, and done in reductional fire with a temperature of 1240 degrees.
